THE BEST TIME TO PLANT YOUR SUCCESS

It is often said that the best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago.

And the next best time is now.

In retrospect, many will admit that they are at loss in some aspects of their lives for failing to do certain things in their past. Now that failure haunts them. That omission plagues their minds with guilt.

If you had cultivated a plant seed twenty years ago, it would have become a mature tree by now. You could have been harvesting its fruit this season. Or it could have been serving you for a good shelter right now. Or it could have been providing you with the beauty you envisaged in your environment. Or it could have provided you with the wood you sought. Or it could have been mature enough for an experiment.

But none of these benefits can be obtained because, twenty years ago, you neglected to plant the tree.

Likewise, people neglect to cultivate their seed of success on time.

Why You Didn’t Sow When You Should

As usual, they have their reasons.

  1. Ignorance

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge,” laments the Good Book. You never had the information you have now. You knew very little, and you hung around people who were no better.

Knowledge, it is said, is power.

The lack of this power in times past have rendered you beyond your potential in the present.

For example, you did not know you could obtain a scholarship to study overseas. You thought such was reserved for only “the top three” in a big school, who themselves must compete with other “brainiacs”, after which only one of them would be selected.

  1. Procrastination

Because trees (that is, success) don’t grow to maturity instantaneously, you were reluctant to put in the requisite labour. You looked at the years it would take and the investment or commitment involved before your labour brings any reward. Having slothfully considered that, you were reluctant to start at once. After all, you thought, there’ll always be time to do it. Now the years have fled by like jet planes, and you now mourn your days of tardiness and procrastination.

  1. Skeptism

It could be that you got the information but you were so full of doubt. You doubted that your efforts would pay off. Now others are reaping their fruit and you’re empty.

The regret that comes with the failure to cultivate your success early enough can be tortuous. You watch as your neighbours who diligently chased their dreams the same period you abandoned yours are now enjoying the fruit of their labours while you’re doing without. Or maybe you’re in one kind of suffering that could have been avoided had you sowed when you should. And the pleasure that could’ve been yours now eludes you.

Second Chance

Even if you failed twenty years ago, now is the next best time to do something about it. You can have a come back now. Where there is still life, there is hope.

It doesn’t matter where you are right now; if the opportunity still exists, then it’s yours for the taking.

At least by picking yourself up, you inspire others. Besides, you’d get to have the joy of seeing your little success after so many years of atrophy.

Even if you think you’ve well passed the age, by training again, you acquire additional wisdom that would be helpful to younger generations. best time to plant
